Veronica Barber, OD, FAAO
OPTOMETRIST
Dr. Barber has over 20 years of experience in all modalities of contact lens fitting and has a special interest in pediatric optometry, including pediatric contact lens fittings and the treatment of amblyopia.
Dr. Barber began her career in the United States Air Force, where she treated Aviators and other active duty, dependents, and retirees providing eye examinations, contact lenses fittings, and LASIK surgery management. Dr. Barber is certified by the National Board of Examiners in Optometry for the diagnosis and treatment of ocular diseases, including Meibomian Gland Dysfunction and aqueous deficient and chronic inflammatory Dry Eye. She provides pre- and post-operative care for LASIK, ASA, corneal cross-linking, and cataract surgeries locally.
Dr. Barber has been a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry since 2003, with a special area of interest in irregular cornea syndromes.
Outside of the office, Dr. Barber enjoys hobbies such as hiking, mountain biking, paddle boarding, scrapbooking, and creating lasting memories with her husband, children, and pug.
Heidi Schauffele, OD
OPTOMETRIST
Dr. Schauffele obtained her Optometry Degree at UC Berkeley and has over 20 years of experience in compassionate eyecare, She is qualified to perform full scope optometric care. She especially enjoys fitting a variety of specialty contact lenses. She feels strongly that children deserve preventative health in eyecare . Other passions include Myopia Management and helping develop the VPEC Dry Eye Clinic.
Dr. Schauffele is a member of the American Optometric Association, the California Optometric Association, the Sacramento Valley Optometric Society, and the Embarcadero Lions Club. She has served as Director on the Northern California Lions Sight Association board, and as past treasurer of the Sacramento Valley Optometric Society.
She and her husband, Randy, have raised two sons in Sacramento, where Randy grew up, and they both enjoy being close to many extended family members. Personal interests include reading, gardening, and crafts.
Rubens Xhemalaj, OD
OPTOMETRIST
Dr. Xhemalaj (juh-MAHL-eye) provides full-scope optometric care with a strong emphasis on preventive eye care, early detection, and patient education. He is dedicated to catching subtle changes before they impact vision and ensuring that every patient leaves with a clear understanding of their eye health.
A native of Ohio, Dr. Xhemalaj earned his Bachelor of Science in Nutrition from Case Western Reserve University before receiving his Doctor of Optometry degree with honors from the University of the Incarnate Word Rosenberg School of Optometry in San Antonio, Texas.
Outside the clinic, Dr. Xhemalaj enjoys exploring Northern California and spending time in Roseville with his wife, Danielle, and their dog, Tobi.”

Caree is a wealth of information derived from her 40+ years in the optical industry. She can help you find the right style frame for your face shape and get the best optical enhancements in the prescription or non-prescription lenses that go in it.
You are in the best hands with Caree! It is rare that someone can stump this very knowledgeable optician, but should she not have an answer already, she knows where to find it.

PATIENT CARE COORDINATOR
Monica is here to help and she welcomes our patients with a smile and a positive attitude. She oversees the patient experience from start to finish and coordinates referrals for additional care with consultants outside of our clinic as needed. She is well versed in insurance plans (both medical and vision) and she knows how to find the answers to most patient care questions.

PAYMENT PROCESSING COORDINATOR
Jessica has been involved at some level in Optometry since her childhood. She was the inspiration for the original Vista Point Eye Care logo. She also helped digitize our forms, obtain online scheduling, and improved multiple administrative processes while working for just over 2 years as an Optometric Technician within the office. She continues to assist the practice remotely with payment processing and billing reconciliation while pursuing an engineering degree at Chico State.

OPTICIAN / OPTOMETRIC TECHNICIAN
Please join us in welcoming Michele, our new optician/technician! Michele brings 17 years of optical experience, with expertise in frame and lens selection, pretesting, contact lens training, insurance verification, billing, and patient coordination. She is ABO- and NCLE-certified and is passionate about creating a welcoming, positive experience for every patient. We’re excited to have her join the Vista Point Eye Care team!

Ryan our Lead Technician and we are so happy to have him on board! He assists in preparing patients for exams and performs ancillary diagnostic testing as needed. He is is certified in both OptiLight and OptiLift procedures. Ryan excels at providing compassionate care to our patients, as well as training new technicians for their role.
